Win-Tron Racing Suffers Blow At Chicagoland Speedway

JOLIET, Ill. (September 8, 2008) - -  Over the past two months, Minnesota’s based Win-Tron Racing has stood out as returning to their normal form. That form continued on Saturday afternoon at Chicagoland Speedway but an engine failure in the early stages of the Chicagoland ARCA 200 left the team with a disappointing 36th place finish.

For the fifth time in 2008, avid racecar driver James Buescher returned to the helm of the No. 32 Mercedes Homes-Red Line Oil Dodge looking for his second top-10 finish of the 2008 season.

With an impressive top-10 finish in his most recent start at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on Labor Day, the Win-Tron Racing team was feeling some momentum on their side while also banking on Buescher’s talent to put them up front in the Windy City.

The weekend started off on a positive note with the Win-Tron Racing team after turning a very respectable time in the single practice session of the weekend on Friday. “We were a little tight,” said Buescher. “The car is real good; we’re just not able to turn it the exact way I want to. We’ll make some changes before qualifying and see what we have.”

Under cooler than normal temperatures, Buescher made his inaugural two-lap qualifying effort late Friday afternoon at Chicagoland Speedway mounting a time of 30.637 seconds or 176.257 MPH, putting the team 10th on the starting grid.

“I’m happy with that,” explained Buescher, the youngest winner in ARCA RE/MAX Series history. “The car felt real solid. It’s a long race, so we just need to keep focused, stay out of trouble and put this team in the top-10 twice in one week.”

At the start of the Chicagoland ARCA 200, Buescher was quickly on attack from competitors starting behind him but the NASCAR rookie gave a gallant charge to stay in the top-10 exiting lap one.

The field would be slowed immediately on lap one for a two-car incident on the frontstretch with Buescher sitting tight in the 11th position. Staying quiet on the radio, Buescher and the rest of the team would have to wait nearly 15 laps before returning to green flag conditions after the lengthy track clean up.

Back to racing, Buescher held his line solidly in the top-15 until the next caution flag waived on lap 20 for a series of multi-car incident.

Still holding the 11th position, it would be on the next restart where Buescher’s day would take a turn. Exiting turns three and four on lap 27 Buescher’s No. 32 Charger began trailing smoke. With instructions from crew chief Mike Chaffee, Buescher brought his multi-colored No. 32 Dodge Charger to the attention of his team where the team diagnosed a motor problem that would send the team behind the garage and force an early exit from the Chicagoland ARCA 200.

The team would be credited with completing 28 laps.

“Unfortunate. That’s the best way to put it,” said Buescher. “I think we were going to have a good day but we never really had a chance to show it. There is nothing more we can do about Chicagoland except to move on and get ready for New Jersey.”

Win-Tron Racing’s Nate Thiesse commented, “It’s a shame. The Tesar Engineering motors have been great this year but it just wasn’t meant to be at Chicagoland. A pat on the back to all my guys and James for a good job before the failure. We qualified in the top-10 and if the cards played right, I’m sure that’s where we would have ended up.”

Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is their traditional stop at Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana for the running of the Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200 by Advance Auto Parts. The 18th race of the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series will take the green flag on Saturday, September 13 at 7:15 p.m. local time. Matt Merrell will return to the seat for Win-Tron Racing and will make his second start of the 2008 season.
Mercedes Homes, Red Line Oil and Win-Tron Racing Driver Development served as the marketing partners for Saturday’s event.
