Mason Mingus; Win-Tron Racing Set For NCWTS Debut At Talladega Superspeedway

MOORESVILLE, North Carolina (September 27, 2013) – Officials from Mooresville, North Carolina-based Win-Tron Racing confirmed today that the team will compete in the upcoming NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) fred’s 250 powered by Coca-Cola from Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Saturday, October 19 with development driver Mason Mingus.

Win-Tron Racing competed in two NCWTS races last year with Portland, Texas native Matt Merrell at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway, respectively. The team finished a personal-best of 11th at PIR.

Currently, Mingus, in his first full season of competing on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour, has assembled 20 starts, two poles, five top-fives and 17 top-10 finishes. The Brentwood, Tennessee native currently occupies second in the championship standings in the arrears to nine-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel.
In May, the 18-year old former High School champion wrestler made his Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway debut driving the No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig / Diamond Equipment Toyota Camry for the veteran ARCA team. After qualifying on the outside pole, he led 11 laps and drafted to the runner-up spot (second) to Kimmel.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to make my NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at Talladega,” said Mingus, who will pilot the No. 35 Call 811 Before You Dig / Mark-It! Madness Chevrolet Silverado. "We've been working hard to make this opportunity possible and for it now to become a reality is really a dream come true. It’s very humbling for sure.”

Mingus added, “I have a great deal of respect for not only the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, but also for the chance to compete in one of NASCAR’s top series. The race won’t be easy. Talladega will be filled with a lot of great drivers and teams, who strive for perfection. We’ve set our goals to go there, qualify for the race and finish all 94 laps. If we can do that and without a doubt, I feel we can, the weekend will be a success no matter where we finish.”

Nate Thiesse, co-truck owner of Win-Tron Racing, feels that their rising protégé is more than ready for the move to NASCAR and more importantly, at a place like Talladega.
“We’ve been able to work with Mason for a couple of years now and he is a wealth of talent,” sounded Thiesse. “He’s done a magnificent job in his first full season of ARCA competition. His devotion and willingness to learn in this sport has shown that he is ready for the next challenge and chapter of his racing career. He did very well at Talladega earlier this year and while we know that there is a major transition between the two series, we feel that he will adjust comfortably and will have a good showing in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut.”

Mark Rette, the 2009 ARCA champion crew chief will lead the efforts for Win-Tron Racing in the series 19th race of the year.

In addition to the fred’s 250 powered by Coca-Cola, Mingus and Win-Tron Racing will also compete in the final two NCWTS races of the year from Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (November 8) and Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway (November 15) respectively.

However, before Mingus and his Win-Tron Racing team can turn their full concentration to their Talladega effort, they’ll compete in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season-finale from Kansas Speedway on Friday night, October 3, for the running of the Kansas Lottery 98.9. The 21st event of the season will air live on Fox Sports 1.

Mason Mingus has 33 ARCA Racing Series races to his credit. During that tenure, he has acquired five top-fives and 24 top-10 finishes, including second-place runs at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Toledo Speedway and Berlin (Mich.) Raceway in August 2013. Additionally, two pole runs at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway (March 2013) and Iowa Speedway (September 2013), is his best time trials effort to date.
